IIT JAM 2017 Preparation Tips, Exam Pattern and Application Procedure

The JAM 2017 examination will be held in February 2017 for the admission of eligible candidates in M.Sc and many other PG courses in Science at NITs, IITs, and IISc Bangalore. The appearing candidates have to gear up their preparation for the JAM 2017 exam.
The application forms for JAM 2017 will be available from September 2016 and the applicants can apply only through online mode. There will be 7 papers in the exam and the exam will also be held through online mode.
The experts have discussed the guidelines to help the appearing applicants in their preparation for JAM 2017. The preparation for an examination consists of numerous factors such as going through the syllabus, required books, setting up a timetable, practices etc. A few useful tips are given below

Eligibility criteria for IIT-JEE JAM

Different academic programs have different educational criteria, which are recommended by respective institutes. A candidate will have to fulfill the educational criteria to apply for the academic program.
Usually, the applicants who have appeared or are due to appear for their degree exams are eligible to appear for JAM and a minimal of 55% marks is termed as mandatory.

Application procedure

The eligible candidates have to first enroll online for JAM IIT exam. After that, they have to fill and submit the application form online, the post which they have to make the payment of the application fees. The application charges can be paid via challan or NET Banking. Then a print-out of the JAM IIT Application Form has to be taken and submitted to the Organizing Chairman by the specified date.

Exam pattern: JAM IIT

JAM IIT question papers are subjective or objective in nature based on the subjects one chooses. IIT JAM includes eight subjects:
Mathematical Statistics
Computer Applications
A candidate can choose to appear for either one or two of the above-mentioned papers. While Biotechnology and Computer Applications are objective in nature, the other subjects are subjective in nature.
The objective question papers comprise 100 questions and 100 marks one mark for each question. A negative mark of 1/3rd is applicable for every incorrect answer.
The subjective papers are divided into two parts Part I and Part II
Part I includes 60 percent marks and contains one-mark and two-mark multiple choice questions. A negative marking of 1/3rd is applicable for the incorrect answer of one mark each and a negative marking of 2/3rd is applicable for a wrong answer of two marks each.
Part II includes 40 percent marks and is subjective in nature. There is no negative marking in this section.

IIT JAM Preparation Tips

Syllabus Analysis & Exam PatternIt is very essential to understand and analyze the syllabus before beginning the preparation. Moreover to the syllabus, you should be aware of the exam pattern. The test pattern will familiarize you with the questions weightage, marks weightage, marking plan and types of question that will come in the examination. Follow the IIT JAM official syllabus which is suggested by IITs and IISc.

Practice Previous Years Question Paper
Try to solve previous years question papers as many as possible. Students will get the past years question papers easily from the market place. Make a routine to practice it daily. It will help you to find your weakest area. Keep working harder on your weakest section.

Follow book and study material
Selection of good IIT JAM books plays a very important role in securing good marks. Students must choose the best books for their study. Try to refer the books that contain previous year question papers and complete syllabus of IIT JAM.

Set up ideal timetable
Ideal timetable plays an important role in the preparation of JAM 2017. Establishing the timetable is not enough, the important point is to follow that timetable with full dedication. The applicants are suggested to set up their own timetable in such a way so that they get minimum one month’s time for revision before the exam.
If you take advice from experts, they say 4 to 5 hours study in a day with full concentration is enough instead spending entire day. The practice sessions should also be included in your timetable.

Attempt mock tests
The JAM exam has become online from last year. You can practice mock tests for JAM. It will help you to identify the area where you are losing so that you can practice more on that area to make it strong.

Last minute preparation tips

• Try and solve as many past year question papers as you possibly can. It will give you the knowledge into the kind of questions which are usually asked.
• Solve mock test papers available online as it will help you to set strategies for time management.
• Try referring to IIT JAM books by various authors.
• Make short notes for revision.
• Devote more time towards revising topics which have more weightage as compared to others.
• Do not start a new topic at the last minute! Instead, revise the topics you have already completed.
• Most importantly keep your calm and don't panic.

    I am a student of Engineering and preparing for the IIT JAM Physics 2018.
    I have read your blog you have mention that their are 8 subjects in the exam and computer application is also the subjects but on other websites only 7 subjects are mention no computer application is mention.
    I have checked it from the official website as well <a href="">Eduncle</a> . They have given only 7 subjects.
    If you have any official notification pdf regarding the IIT JAM subjects then kindly share the pdf.
