Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Mains- The most fearsome of all, this examination allows students to get enrolled in India's most renowned & prestigious engineering institutes such as the IIT’s ,NIT’s and other national level colleges. This exam is of a 3 hour duration and can be given online or offline. The question paper is divided into 3 categories, viz, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with multiple choice questions under each category. The JEE main is also considered as an acceptability test for the JEE advanced which entitles its qualifiers to gain admission into first semester degree programmes offered by the IIT’s.
Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Advanced- The JEE advanced is the subsequent stage of the JEE and is conducted by seven IITs under the Joint Admission Board. Candidates must qualify in the JEE Main and be one of the top 1, 50,000 candidates to appear for the JEE Advanced. Considered to be the toughest exam in India, there is no fixed paper pattern for this exam. Other premier institutes such as the Rajiv Gandhi institute of Petroleum technology, Indian institute of science, Indian Institutes of Science, Education and Research (IISER) and the Indian institute of Space and Technology (IIST) also take JEE advanced scores into consideration. IIT Guwhati is set to organise this year’s exam.
Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT) –A computer based test conducted by the BITS Pilani University, BITSAT is considered to be the most complex entrance test in India. It is also the most unique amongst all other entrance tests as it has a section dedicated to English and Logical Reasoning which is not common in engineering entrance exams. The duration of the online test is 3 hours and the question paper consists of multiple choice type questions which have negative marking. BITSAT is known to be more about speed than toughness.
Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) - Conducted annually by the Vellore Institute of Technology as an entrance examination into the degree courses at its campus. VIT is renowned and has its place among the top 10 engineering institutes in India. VITEEE is a computer based, two and a half hour multiple choice type exam and its language of instruction is English only. Thorough concepts, good speed and accuracy is detrimental in cracking VITEEE.
Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK). Conducted by private college associations is a common entrance test for Engineering Medical and Dental undergraduate programmes for admission to more than 150 private engineering colleges in Karnataka. The test is computer based and candidates from all over India are free to apply for this exam. Engineering aspirants appear for PCM papers only and there is no negative marking. In case of a tie the principle of least negative responses is resorted to. COMEDK is considered to be relatively easier than other major entrance examinations.
