It is the season of exams! With millions of students getting ready to compete for many thousand seats, here is a roundup of the Top 5 prestigious medical entrance examinations.

All India Pre-Medical Test: Conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in collaboration with Medical Council of India, the AIMPT is a national level entrance test. On passing, students are entitled to get admission into MBBS and BDS courses offered by colleges for 15% merit positions in All India seats and seats offered by the participating Universities or Institutions or state governments. The AIMPT test is a 3 hour examination with multiple choice questions, negative markings and a total weightage of 720 marks. Though a pen and paper test, in a bid to go paperless, the application forms are now available online.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences MBBS- Adjudged as the benchmark of medical studies in India, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, conducts the AIIMS MBBS for admission into 750 MBBS seats in the 7 AIIMS in the country. Complex and versatile, AIIMS, boasts of being the toughest medical examination to crack in the country. This exam has no set pattern that is followed year after year and has a higher standard of questions in comparison to other medical entrance examinations. The exam can be given in English or Hindi and will be conducted across 154 cities this year.

Jawaharlal Institute of Post Grad Medical Education and Research MBBS- Also known as JIPMER (in short) is an annual entrance exam conducted by the Jawaharlal Institute of Post Grad Medical Education and Research, Puducherry, for admission into MBBS. One of India’s most renowned colleges, It imparts Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG) and Super-specialty Medical Training through a working hospital with bed strength of 1500 and a Nursing College. The exam is a 200 single response type Multiple Choice Question paper in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Logic & Quantitative Reasoning and English & Comprehension with no negative marking.

The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental colleges of  Karnataka – COMEDK  is a national level undergraduate medical entrance exam taken by around 60, 000 students for pursuing MBBS or BDS programmes from  any of the 39 COMEDK member institutions. Appearing for COMEDK gives you a shot at some of the best colleges in Karnataka with 2000 medical and dental seats. The test duration is of 3 hours with negative marking not being applicable and is open to all eligible students in the country.
